5. Instructions for preparation of Camera-ready Abstracts

Title should be in lower case bold type
A.B. First1, C.D. Second2 and E.F. Third2

1 First Grouped Address
2 Second Grouped Address

Title, as well as authors and their address (author block), should be centered. Leave one blank line after title. Authors: give initials (with punctuation) followed by last name. Type name of authors and address in upper and lower case letters. Underline the name of the author who will present the paper. Leave one blank line after the author block. Do not indent this first text paragraph.
An abstract should not contain more than 300 words. Should you find the allocated space too small for what you would like to include in the abstract, consider deleting unnecessary words. Do not reduce font size, or line spacing.
The Local Organising Committee will publish in the Conference Proceedings all accepted Camera-ready abstracts which follow the above guidelines.

6. Transportation

6.1 Travelling to Athens or Thessaloniki

By air: There are many direct flights to Athens airport and to the ``Macedonia" airport of Thessaloniki from most European airports. There are also many daily flights between Thessaloniki and Athens.
By train: There are daily arrivals to the Thessaloniki railway station from most central and eastern European cities and from Athens.
By car: Thessaloniki can be reached by road through Bulgaria and former Yugoslavia. Athens and Thessaloniki can be reached by car/ferryboat/car through the harbours of Trieste/Venice/ Ancona/Bari/Brindisi to Igoumenitsa or Patras. Travelling by car between Athens and Thessaloniki takes about six hours.

6.2 Getting to Samos from Athens or Thessaloniki

By air: Olympic Airways operates 4 or 5 daily flights between Athens airport and Samos. From Thessaloniki airport, Olympic flies to Samos every Thursday and Sunday. Please visit Olympic Airways home page for further details:

http://www.olympic-airways.gr
Since September is a high-season period in Samos, there will be several charter flights from the main European airports. Please secure an airplane place as soon as possible (especially if you plan to travel with Olympic Airways).
By boat: There are one or two boats per day from Piraeus (Athens) to the harbour of Samos (Karlovassi). The travel takes about 13 hours, according to the boat itinerary along the islands. The boat connection from Thessaloniki is once per week. Please see your travel agent.
The Local Organising Committee is trying to secure reduced boat prices for students and post-graduate students (equivalent to what students of the University of the Aegean pay at the moment). We hope that eventually we shall succeed! Please pay a visit in our web page before buying your boat ticket. Any further information will be posted there as soon as it is available.

6.3 Getting to the Conference Location

The LOC will have a desk in the Samos airport, as well as a minibus to help you find your hotel. The minibus will be with us through out the Conference in order to assist the participants for local transportation.
The Local Organising Committee will announce a mobile phone number, early in September, in order to help all participants arrive to their hotel and Conference location.

7. Hotels

The Local Organising Committee has secured several rooms and negotiated special prices with the following hotels:

Hotels Single Room Double Room Double Room
    Single Occupancy Double Occupancy
Fyto 15800 GDr 17800 GDr 20100 GDr
Kouros 13800 GDr (not available) 19200 GDr
Ydrili 17800 GDr (not available) 20900 GDr
Koral 9800 GDr (not available) 12000 GDr

These prices are the maximum prices that the participants may have to pay. The LOC is trying hard to secure subsidy for accommodation. If we succeed, further reduction to the hotel prices is expected. Please book your hotel through the Local Organising Committee, by filling the appropriate Hotel Reservation Form (issued with the First Announcement). Further hotels are being contacted.

8. Insurance

All insurance is the responsibility of participants. It is strongly recommended that overseas participants arrange their own health and accident insurance.

9. Entry Formalities

No visas are required for visitors from the European Union, USA, Japan and certain South American countries. For all other countries visas are available on a mutual agreement basis. However, it is advisable that the participants contact the Greek Embassy or Consulate of their country to make sure for the precise procedure they have to follow in order to get a visa. Health certificates are required from visitors coming or travelling through infected areas, in accordance with World Health Organisation requirements.

10. Financial assistance

The Local Organising Committee is working hard towards obtaining financial support for the Conference. Priority will be given to post-graduate students and to persons proposed by the Convenors. Participants who would like to be considered for financial assistance, should inform both the Local Organising Committee and the appropriate Convenors. For further information please contact directly the Chairman of the LOC, Dr. J. Seimenis.

11. Social Events

The Local Organising Committee will organise: (a) A visit to the archaeological site of Pythagoreion (including a visit to Efpalinion). This is within walking distance from the Conference Location. (b) a trip along the main villages of the island (probably during the last half-day of the Conference). A visit to Heraion will be considered during this trip.

The Local Organising Committee will appreciate pre-registration for Social and Cultural Events, as this will aid their smooth organisation.

12. Exchange rate

The current (July 1999) exchange rate is: 1 EURO = 325 drachmas (GDr)
