We would like to congratulate Dr. Christos Efthymiopoulos (Research Center for Astronomy & Applied Mathematics, Academy of Athens), who was recently promoted to a "Research Director" (Ερευνητής Α).

We would like to congratulate Mr. Panagiotis Gavras who has recently obtained his PhD from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, under the co-supervision of Prof. Mary Kontiza and Dr. Dimitris Sinachopoulos. The title of his dissertation was: "Study of double and multiple stars with very long period". Dr. Gavras has subsequently moved to Observatoire de Paris (France) for a postdoctoral position to work on the preparation of the ESA astrometric space mission "Gaia".

2. THE SIXTH IRAM 30m SUMMER SCHOOL

IRAM is organizing its sixth 30m school, which will take place in September 23-30, 2011 in Pradollano (Sierra Nevada, Spain). The school is aimed at attracting young astrophysicists to current and future single-dish mm-, submm-, and far-infrared telescopes. Applications will be accepted from young scientists with little previous experience in mm-astronomy. The school is limited to about 40 students, who will be selected on the basis of their interests, CV, and references. The school runs over one week from Friday to Friday, with six days of 4 to 5 hours of lectures, allowing ample time for small working groups to prepare, conduct, and reduce observations at the 30m telescope. The working groups are led by the lecturers, who will be supported by IRAM staff members. At the last day of the school, the results of the working groups will be presented and discussed. The application deadline is July 15th 2011. For more information visit:

3. THE 2011 ISWI-EUROPE SUMMER SCHOOL IN SPACE SCIENCE

The European Regional ISWI Summer School in Space Science will take place in Slovakia in August 21-27, 2011. The main theme of the School is Solar/Solar-Terrestrial Physics and Space Weather and the application deadline is May 15th 2011. PhD students from Greek Universities and Research Institutes who wish to participate and would require financial assistance, should contact Dr. O. Malandraki, who is the International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI) National Coordinator for Greece. More information about this school is available at:
