 1. SHORT NEWS
 -------------

   During the forthcoming General Assembly of Hel.A.S., on June 16, 2000,
 a colloquium with the title:

         MHXANISMOS TON ANTIKYTHERON: H PROTH YPOLOGISTIKH MHXANH?

 will be given by Nicolaos Economou, Prof. Emeritus of the University of
 Thessaloniki. The event will take place at the Laboratory of Astronomy of
 the University of Athens at 12 o' clock.


 2. Hel.A.S. FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS
 ---------------------------------

   Please note the following deadlines for the forthcoming elections of 
 our Society. 

   - April 28, 2000: The Council distributed the ballots to all Ordinary
                     and Junior members. (Check your mailboxes...)

   - June 15, 2000 : The ballots of people who would like to vote by
                     (ordinary) mail must have been received by the
                     Secretary of Hel.A.S.

   - June 16, 2000 : General Assembly of Hel.A.S. at 13.30 in the
 "edra" of the Society, the Laboratory of Astronomy of the University of
 Athens.

   According to article 32 of the constitution of Hel.A.S., a member
 must have payed his/her annual membership fees (including those for the
 year 2000!) in order to be eligible to vote.

   All members are strongly encouraged to attend the General Assembly. 
 Members who will not be able to be in Athens on June 16 can still
 vote by ordinary mail. Note, however, that the ballots must reach the
 Secretary, Dr. H. Varvoglis, before June 15th, 2000.


 3. ELECTION OF NEW HEL.A.S. MEMBERS
 -----------------------------------

  According to the constitution of Hel.A.S. (articles 4 to 14) election 
 of new members as well as changes in membership status are considered
 by the Governing Council and proposed to the General Assembly for voting 
 once a year.

  Please inform any potential candidates for membership, to send their 
 applications to the Secretary as soon as possible. More information

 4. UPCOMING ASTRONOMY MEETINGS IN GREECE
 ----------------------------------------

  The following meetings will take place in Greece in the coming
