  • Elections of the new Governing Council of Hel.A.S. in June 2022. The elections for the 2022-2024 Governing Council of Hel.A.S. will take place on Friday June 24, 2022. The deadline for nominations of candidates is February 28, 2022. A letter regarding the nominations can be found here.   • New Constitution of HelAS: The Governing Council of HelAS, during its meeting on December 10 2020, completed all preparatory work regarding the amendment of the Constitution of the Society. The purpose of this amendment is to address primarily a) the difficulties of voting for the election of th Governing Council by surface mail and b) to explicitly clarify several issues that had been identified by past Governing Councils and General Assemblies. The proposed amendments and relevant explanations are available (in greek) in the minutes of the Board.
    The Governing Council decided to hold an informal online meeting on Monday January 11, 2021 at 12:00 so that all members who wish to express their thoughts and suggestions regarding the proposed amendments to the Constituton. Written suggestions may also be sent by e-mail to the Secretary of the Society Dr. C. Gontikakis. Following this meeting the final proposed modifications for the new constitution are available here.
    Finaly, the Governing Council decided to call an Extraordinary General Meeting on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 12:00 with the only item in the Agenda the amendment of the Constituton. All members of the Society will be informed accordingly.

  • 2017 Alpbach Summer School The 2017 Alpbach Summer School is entitled "The Dusty Universe" and it will take place on 18-27 July 2017 at Alpbach/Tyrol, Austria.
    Sixty European engineering and science students will be chosen by an international committee of experts to participate in this 41st Summer School Alpbach, a ten day learning opportunity held in the beautiful Austrian Alps. Participants will be engaged in an in-depth learning experience. Over ten days they will attend stimulating lectures on various aspects of space science and engineering and will work intensely within smaller groups to define and design a space mission under the supervision of noted scientific and engineering experts within the field.
    The topic of the Summer School Alpbach 2017 is "Dust in the Universe". Understanding dust, its role in and use as a diagnostic for cosmic evolution has tremendously benefited from space missions covering the electromagnetic spectrum from X-rays to mm wavelengths, and will do so in the future. Students at the Alpbach Summer School 2017 will be informed about past achievements and current issues, and will be invited to propose ideas to further explore the dusty Universe.

  • The Europlanet 2020 Research Infrastructure announces the following actions to integrate and support planetary science activities across Europe: a) Transnational Access opportunities, b) Outreach Funding Scheme and Prize for Public Engagement, c) Europlanet Outreach Innovation Day - 'Planets Meeting the Public' in Athens (July 4-5, 2016).   • The International Conference on Solar Variability and its Heliospheric Effects, organized by Dr. Olga E. Malandraki (Chair of SOC and LOC), took place in Athens in November 2015. The report to VarSITI/SCOSTEP is available here.
