3. NEW MEMBERS OF HEL.A.S.

During the 31st General Assembly of the Society, which will take place during the 11th Hellenic Astronomical Conference, new members of the Society will be elected. Junior members who have received their PhD the past year will also be moved to the Ordinary status. This is a once in a year event as new members, and change of membership status, can only happen during a General Assembly. We would like to request from all members of the Society to inform any individual who they believe would be interested to join Hel.A.S., and our Junior members who need to change their membership status, to submit his/her application to the Secretary of the Society before July 31, 2013. Any Ordinary or Associated member of the Society can propose a candidate for the competition. Proposals should be sent to the Secretary of the Society until the first week of August at the latest. The proposals will be evaluated by the Hel.A.S. council, who will announce the results in late August/early September 2013. The award recipient will be given time for an oral presentation in the Society’s conference in September 2013, and will receive financial support for the participation in an international conference. Studentships may be hosted either at ESO Headquarters in Garching (Germany) or at ESO Offices in Santiago (Chile). The closing date for applications this year is 15 June 2013. For more info, you can visit the ESO studentships programme web page.
