We would like to congratulate Dr. Antonios Nathanail who was recently appointed as Researcher C' at the Research Center for Astronomy and Applied Mathematics of the Academy of Athens. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Alexios Liakos who was recently appointed as Researcher C' in "Observational Astrophysics" at the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Ioannis Liodakis who was recently elected as Researcher C' at the Institute of Astrophysics-FORTH, as a result of having been awarded an ERC Starting Grant. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Eirini Batziou who has recently successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Neutron Star Formation in Accretion-Induced Collapse of White Dwarfs" at the Max Planck for Astrophysics (Garching, Germany) under the supervision of Prof. Hans-Thomas Janka. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in her professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Adamantia Zoe Boutsi who has recently successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Investigating the possibility of the development of Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GIC) in Greece" at the Dept. of Physics of the Univ. of Athens, under the supervision of Dr. Georgios Balasis of the IAASARS/NOA. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in her professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Minas Karamanis who has completed his PhD thesis entitled "Bayesian computation in astronomy: novel methods for parallel and gradient-free inference" at the University of Edinburgh (UK) under the supervision of Prof. Florian Beutler and Prof. John Andrew Peacock, and was also awarded the 2023 Winton Award for the best astronomy thesis. Dr. Karamanis has since moved as a postdoctoral fellow to the Berkeley Center for Cosmological Physics, at the University of California, Berkeley (USA). The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Despoina Skoulidou who recently moved to a Space Surveillance and Tracking Systems Engineer position at GMV (Darmstad, Germany). The Society extends its best wishes for further success in her professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Konstantina Anastasopoulou who recently moved to a postdoctoral researcher position at the at the Harvard and Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (USA). The Society extends its best wishes for further success in her professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Dimitrios Millas who recently moved to a research scientist position at the Royal Observatory of Belgium where he will be working on space weather forecasting and service development. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Zoi Tzogia Spetsieri who recently moved to a Consultant position at Ernst & Young Lausanne (Switzerland). The Society extends its best wishes for further success in her professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Athina Meli who has recently moved to a Professor position at North Carolina A&T State University (USA). The Society extends its best wishes for further success in her professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Prof. Vassilis Charmandaris, President of our Society, for his recent election to the Evaluation and Accreditation Council of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education.

We would like to congratulate the members of our Society Dr. Athanasios Kouloumvakos (APL/JHU, USA) , Dr. Olga Malandraki (IAASARS/NOA), Dr. Evangelos Paouris (GMU & APL/JHU, USA) and Dr. Angelos Vourlidas (APL/JHU, USA), who have recently received the NASA Group Achievement Award for their contributions to the Parker Solar Probe mission. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in their professional pursuits.

2. HelAS Annual Membership Fee

We would like to remind all members of the Society, that the deadline for the payment of the annual membership fee for the year 2023 was August 31st. If your are uncertain about your payment status please contact the Secretary of the Society.

As it has been mentioned in the past, the preferred method of payment is online via the secure server of the Bank of Pireaus, using a direct bank transfer. For more details on this, as well as information on other methods of payment, please review the payment form listed bellow, or contact the Treasurer:

3. Check your Address!

All members are strongly encouraged to verify that their postal and e-mail address listed in the online directory of the Society is up to date. Please inform the Secretary for any changes that may have occurred. Moreover, do inform us for any updates in your status, completion of PhD, new position, to share the good news with all the members of the Society.

 
4. Postdoctoral Positions at IA-FORTH

The Institute of Astrophysics at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (IA-FORTH) invites applications for several post-doctoral positions broadly on supermassive black hole binaries to work in Prof. Maria Charisi's group, funded by the ERC Starting Grant MMMonsters. MMMonsters aims to detect supermassive black hole binaries using electromagnetic (time-domain) and gravitational-wave (via pulsar timing arrays) data and the combination of the two. For more information see here. The application deadline is December 15, 2023.
